The countdown has begun for one of Tanzania's most anticipated golfing events as the Southern Highlands Golf Tournament makes its long-awaited return after a two-year break.

From August 21 to 23, the lush fairways of Mufindi Golf Club will once again come alive with top amateur golfers from across the country battling for honours in a championship that blends elite competition with the breathtaking beauty of Tanzania's Southern Highlands.

Preparations have entered the final stretch, with the host club leaving nothing to chance ahead of the prestigious 54-hole tournament.

Mufindi Golf Club Chairman Yokonia Chaula said the course is in excellent condition and tournament facilities are being polished to deliver a memorable experience for players and visitors alike.

"We are in the final stages of preparations. The golf course is in excellent condition and all arrangements are progressing well to ensure players enjoy a memorable championship," Chaula said.

Organised by Mufindi Golf Club in partnership with the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), the tournament is expected to reunite golfers from clubs across Tanzania for three days of high-quality competition and camaraderie.

Beyond the battle for silverware, the event signals the revival of one of the Southern Highlands' flagship sporting occasions, reinforcing Mufindi's growing reputation as a destination where championship golf meets nature and tourism.

Players in the main championship will contest the Gross Winner, Gross Runner-up, Second Gross Runner-up, Nett Winner and Nett Runner-up titles, while subsidiary prizes will be up for grabs in Division B, Division C, Ladies, Seniors and Juniors categories.

Chaula said the competition will be divided according to handicaps, with Division B catering for golfers playing off 10-18 and Division C for handicaps of 19-28. Ladies, seniors and juniors will also compete with handicaps capped at 28.

Away from the fairways, competitors and visitors will have an opportunity to experience the region's spectacular scenery, fresh mountain climate and eco-tourism attractions, making the championship more than just a golf tournament—it's a celebration of sport, travel and the natural beauty of the Southern Highlands.
