Joseph Seeks Support for 2026 Uganda Amateur Open

Tanzania’s Victor Joseph is seeking financial support to represent the country at the 2026 Uganda Open Golf Championship, a prestigious World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event scheduled for August 25–28 at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
Joseph, a +2 handicap golfer and one of Tanzania’s leading elite amateurs, says competing at the championship is one of his major targets for the 2026 season, but financial constraints are threatening his participation.
The WAGR-ranked event is expected to attract leading amateur golfers from Uganda and across the globe, giving players an opportunity to compete at a high level while earning valuable ranking points.
Joseph demonstrated his readiness at the weekend when he won Division A at the Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC) Club Night, firing an impressive two-under-par 70 nett over the 18-hole, par-72 course.
Joseph described the victory as an important confidence boost ahead of the Uganda Open.
“Saturday’s victory is a good indication of my preparations for the upcoming competitions, especially with the Uganda Open Championship just a few weeks away,” Joseph said.
He said he may also consider competing in the Mufindi Open, although its dates could clash with the Uganda Open.
“My main focus has been on the 2026 Uganda Open. It is my dream to participate in this big tournament, which brings together top players from different countries. It is an important platform for me to test myself against some of the best golfers,” he said.

However, Joseph said securing sponsorship remains his biggest challenge.
According to the estimated participation budget provided by Uganda Golf Club, Joseph needs approximately TSh 3.95 million to cover his travel and participation costs.
The budget includes airfare from Tanzania to Entebbe, accommodation, the tournament entry fee, practice rounds and range balls, golf equipment, caddie fees, airport transfers and local transport, meals and communication expenses.
Joseph’s recent form suggests he could be a strong contender if he secures the opportunity to compete.
