Nsemwa backs Wanyeche, eyes stronger Bunge golf team

Bunge Sports Club Chairperson Rebecca Nsemwa has joined President Samia Suluhu Hassan and other stakeholders in congratulating Tanzania’s golf heroine Hawa Wanyeche on her historic victory at the Uganda Ladies Golf Open.
Nsemwa, who is also a golfer, said Wanyeche’s success had demonstrated the potential of golf to put Tanzania in the international spotlight and deserved recognition from the President and the wider sports fraternity.
She said the achievement should inspire greater collaboration among golf stakeholders to create more opportunities for Tanzanian players to compete and succeed at international level.

“Golf, like any other sport, has everything it takes to put Tanzania in the spotlight. Hawa’s achievement is a great honour for golf and our country and deserves recognition from our President and the entire sports fraternity,” Nsemwa said.
President Samia congratulated Wanyeche in a social media message on Sunday, praising her outstanding performance and highlighting the significance of her international success.
“I congratulate Hawa (Wanyeche), a player from the TPDF Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam, for winning the Uganda Ladies Open,” President Samia said.
“Her victory is a great source of pride for our nation and demonstrates the ability of our players to perform well in international competitions,” she added.
The President also said the Government would continue strengthening and developing sport by creating better conditions for athletes and supporting their participation and success in international competitions.
Wanyeche, who represents TPDF Lugalo Golf Club, secured the 54-hole Uganda Ladies Golf Open title held from August 13 to 15 at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.

She opened the championship with back-to-back rounds of 77 before closing with a two-over-par 74 to finish on 12-over-par and claim the title.
The tournament attracted golfers from Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Tanzania, alongside competitors from hosts Uganda.

Bunge team targets EALA Games
Following Wanyeche’s achievement, Nsemwa said Bunge Sports Club determined to build a formidable Bunge Golf Team ahead of the 2026 East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Inter-Parliamentary Games, scheduled to take place in Arusha in December.
She said the club is ready to work closely with golf stakeholders, including governing bodies, private-sector partners, clubs and other stakeholders, to strengthen the team and ensure it contributes to the country’s sporting ambitions.
“We are ready to work together with all golf stakeholders to build a strong Bunge Golf Team. We also want to ensure that the team supports the Government’s sport-tourism agenda and plays its part in promoting Tanzania through golf,” Nsemwa said.

Nsemwa said Bunge Sports Club would continue exploring partnerships and initiatives that can strengthen golf within Parliament while contributing to the broader development and promotion of the sport in Tanzania.
