Tanzania’s Dunia Breaks into Top 10 at Uganda Amateur Open

KAMPALA, Wednesday

Tanzania’s sole representative at the 2026 Uganda Amateur Open Championship, Isiaka Dunia, broke into the top 10 after the second round, carding a 74 to move to five-over-par 149.

Dunia, who plays for TPDF Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam, is tied for ninth in a field of more than 116 amateur golfers from Uganda, Zambia, Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi, Eswatini, Namibia, Tanzania and the United States.

After opening with a 75, Dunia improved by one stroke in the second round to stay firmly in contention at the halfway stage.

“Everything is going really well with the game; I'm just decorating with green, and that’s the only challenge,” Dunia said, referring to his putting.

He shares 149 with Uganda’s Reagan Akena, Ashvin Kananathan and Cosmos Ocitti.

Dunia is 12 strokes behind leader Gilbert Chalwe of Zambia, who surged to 7-under 137 after firing a second-round 65.

The championship, being played from August 25 to 28 over 72 holes of stroke play, has two rounds remaining, with Dunia seeking to maintain his consistency and challenge for a top finish.

With two rounds remaining, Dunia will be looking to maintain his consistency and improve further as he bids to finish among the leading players in one of the region’s major amateur golf championships.
