Wanyeche Leads After Day One of Morogoro Open
MOROGORO, Friday
TPDF Lugalo Golf Club’s Enoshi Wanyeche made an impressive start to the Ephraim Mapoore Memorial Morogoro Open 2026, carding a two-under-par 70 to finish Day One at the top of the leaderboard.
Wanyeche leads a strong field at the annual Morogoro Open Golf Tournament, which teed off today at Morogoro Gymkhana Club and will conclude on Sunday.

Fellow Lugalo golfers Juma Likuli and Julius James occupy second and third places respectively, with Likuli carding 73, one over par, and James posting 74, two over par.
Representing Arusha Gymkhana Club, Neema Olomi sits fourth overall on 75, three over par, while Lugalo’s Vicky Elius also carded 75 to round out the top five.
The three-day championship, organised by Morogoro Gymkhana Club under the Tanzania Golf Union (TGU), is being played over 54 holes in a stroke-play format.
The Championship category carries World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points and has attracted some of Tanzania’s leading amateur golfers.
Wanyeche arrived in Morogoro in confident form after claiming his first national-level title of the season at the Southern Highlands Open Golf Tournament at Mufindi Golf Club last weekend.
At Mufindi, Wanyeche produced a consistent three-round performance, opening with a 79 before carding back-to-back rounds of 73 to finish on 225 and secure the title.
His strong opening round in Morogoro puts him in an early position to challenge for another national-level victory.
However, with two rounds remaining, the competition remains wide open.
Olomi and Elius lead the women’s challenge, competing strongly against the men, while a tightly packed leaderboard leaves several players within striking distance heading into Day Two.
The Ephraim Mapoore Memorial Morogoro Open continues tomorrow at Morogoro Gymkhana Club, with the final round scheduled for Sunday.
TPDF Lugalo Golf Club dominated the leaderboard, with nine of the top 10 players coming from the club.
