Wanyeche Extends Lead at Ephraim Mapoore Memorial Morogoro Open

MOROGORO, Saturday

Enoshi Wanyeche strengthened his grip on the top of the leaderboard after the second round of the Ephraim Mapoore Memorial Morogoro Open 2026 at Morogoro Gymkhana Club on Saturday.

Wanyeche carded a level-par 72 in the second round, following his two-under-par 70 in the opening round, to finish on a two-round total of 142.

The performance gives him a commanding seven-stroke lead over fellow TPDF Lugalo Golf Club player Nsajigwa Mwansasu as the Dar es Salaam-based club continues its dominance of the tournament.

Mwansasu made the biggest move up the leaderboard, climbing six places into second after an impressive level-par 72 in the second round.

He improved significantly from his opening-round 77 to finish on 149.

Julius James is third on 150, while Goodluck Kaaya occupies fourth place on 152. Jumanne Mbunda and Claudy Mtavangu share fifth place on 153.

The competition remains tightly contested further down the leaderboard, with Mwinzani Julius, Onesphory Mhalikwe and Vicky Elias tied on 154.

Prosper Emmanuel is 10th on 155, followed by Victor Joseph and Neema Olomi, who are tied on 156.

Pre-tournament favorite Victor Joseph carded consistent rounds of 78 to remain well off the pace after two rounds. Reflecting on his performance, Joseph said: “Honestly, I don’t know. These [brown ones] disappointed me a lot. There’s nothing else. The short game is okay, and the shorts are okay.”

Wanyeche's consistent performance has put him in a strong position heading into the final round as he bids to claim back-to-back national titles.

Speaking after his round, Wanyeche said: “The game went really well today. I played at a good level. I started off badly, but I made up for it on the back nine.”

Despite Wanyeche's sizeable advantage, the leaderboard remains open, with several players within striking distance as the tournament heads into its decisive stage at Morogoro Gymkhana Club.

With two rounds completed, attention now turns to Sunday's final round, where Wanyeche will look to hold off the chasing field and secure consecutive national titles.
