Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) president Timea Chogo has wished the country’s top golfers well as they tee off at the Uganda Ladies Open 2026.

“Dear golfers, let’s cheer on our squad and wish them well as they kick off Day 1 of the Uganda Open,” she said.

The prestigious tournament, organised by the Uganda Ladies Golf Union (ULGU), tees off at the Uganda Golf Club, Kampala from August 13 to 15.

Tanzania heads into the championship buoyed by an impressive showing at the 2025 edition, where Neema Olomi finished runner-up after narrowly losing to Kenya’s Mercy Nyachama in a dramatic playoff at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club.

Other Tanzanian golfers in the main event include TLGU vice-president Ayne Magombe, as well as experienced players Hawa Wanyeche and Vicky Elias.

East Africa’s top women golfers are converge on Kampala with the championship once again carrying World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) status.

The main event will be contested over 54 holes of stroke play across three rounds and is open to golfers with a handicap index of 14.1 and below.

ULGU president Rita Akot recently described the tournament as the pinnacle of women’s amateur golf and a celebration of excellence, sportsmanship and the continued growth of the game.

Besides the elite Ladies Silver category, the championship will feature a Ladies Bronze event for golfers with handicap indexes ranging from 14.2 to 29.2. The Bronze competition will be played over 36 holes from August 14 to 15.

The tournament programme also includes subsidiary events for men’s Divisions A and C on August 14, Men’s Group B on August 15, and a subsidiary ladies’ competition on the final day.

A total prize purse of UGX 10 million (about 7m/-) has been earmarked for the Ladies Silver category, with the winner receiving 24 per cent of the fund, equivalent to UGX 2.4 million (about 1.68m/-). Prize money will be awarded to the top 10 finishers and ties.
