ROAD TO ABUJA 2026 AACT — SERIES FOUR

Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been decorated as Grand Patron of the All Africa Challenge Trophy (AACT) Nigeria 2026, ahead of the prestigious continental women’s golf championship.

Mrs Tinubu received a delegation from the Lady Golfers Association of Nigeria (LGAN), led by its President, Lani Ahmed, at the State House in Abuja on Tuesday.

Ahmed confirmed to Royal Golf that during the visit, she was presented with a plaque of recognition.

She said that the First Lady also marked the occasion with a ceremonial tee-off using a practice golf kit in her office.

The delegation included President of the Court of Appeal and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the IBB International Golf and Country Club, Justice Monica Mensem, as well as immediate past LGAN President Evelyn Oyome.

For Nigeria, the 2026 AACT represents more than the pursuit of a continental title.

With preparations gathering pace for the November 1–7 championship at the IBB International Golf and Country Club in Abuja, organisers are looking beyond the week of competition.

LGAN President Ahmed said the tournament presents an opportunity to strengthen women’s golf in Nigeria and across the continent, while inspiring a new generation of female golfers.

Africa’s Women’s Golf Showcase
Abuja is set to take centre stage in African women’s golf as more than 40 countries prepare to converge on Nigeria for the 2026 All Africa Challenge Trophy.

The AACT is one of Africa’s leading women’s amateur golf championships, bringing together the continent’s top golfing nations in a celebration of competition, talent and development.

The championship was founded in 1992 by the late Tessa Covell, then President of the Zimbabwe Women’s Golf Union.

It was established to provide African women golfers with a continental platform to compete, develop their skills and contribute to raising the standard of women’s golf across the continent.

As the road to Abuja gathers momentum, Nigeria is preparing not only to host a major championship, but also to showcase the growing strength and potential of women’s golf in Africa.
