A major boost for Tanzania’s growing golf community, as the sport continues to gain momentum and undergo transformation through the Community Golf initiative.

The Tanzania Golf Union (TGU) will once again organise Community Golf Instructor training, with the second programme scheduled to take place at Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) in Arusha from October 3–5, 2026.

TGU Chairman Gilman Kasiga confirmed to Royal Golf that preparations for the three-day training have been in full swing.

“We are delighted to organise the second training for trainers after successfully holding the first one in Dar es Salaam,” said Kasiga.

He noted that the training is being organised in collaboration with the world governing body for amateur golf, The R&A, based in St Andrews, Scotland, and former Mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg.

Kasiga said the initiative involved Tanzania clubs that have been doing well in Juniors Golf Development Program.

" Over 10 golfers from TPDF Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam, Sea Cliff Resort & Spa Zanzibar, Morogoro Gymkhana Club, Mufindi Golf Club in Iringa, TPC Moshi Club in Kilimanjaro, Kilimanjaro Wildlife Golf Club will take part in the training program.

The training will be conducted by instructors from The R&A.

“Community Golf targets junior and new golfers, making it easier for them to learn, develop their skills and enjoy the game through specialised training equipment,” he said.

“The support for specialised learning equipment comes from former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg in collaboration with The R&A. We are very grateful to them for this initiative,” Kasiga said.

Kasiga said Tanzania is privileged to be among only six African countries selected to participate in the programme.

The other countries are Kenya, Mauritius, Egypt, South Africa and Morocco.

“This privilege does not come on a silver platter. It is the result of recognition of the efforts we, as a country, have made in developing junior golf programmes,” Kasiga said.

He added that those who benefit from the training will also have the opportunity to train and teach others, helping to expand the reach of Community Golf across Tanzania.

A Community Golf Instructor (CGI) is a trained grassroots leader who delivers fun, inclusive and non-technical introductory golf sessions to beginners in schools, local communities and golf clubs.

The programme is designed to make golf more accessible and encourage new players, particularly young people, to take up the sport.
