Wanyeche claims Uganda Ladies Open title

Tanzania’s Hawa Wanyeche has been crowned champion of the Uganda Ladies Open after producing the most consistent performance among the contingent at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
Wanyeche opened the 54-hole championship with back-to-back rounds of 77 before closing with a two-over-par 74 to finish on 12-over-par and secure the title.

The tournament, held from August 13–15, 2026, saw Uganda’s Patricia Kabasweka finish runner-up, one stroke behind Wanyeche on 13-over-par.
The victory gives Wanyeche consecutive women’s golf titles, following her success at the inaugural Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) President’s Cup at TPDF Lugalo Golf Club in Dar es Salaam in July.
The Uganda Open was only Wanyeche’s second competitive tournament of the year, making her composed performance across the three rounds even more impressive.
Neema Olomi also made a bright start for Tanzania, carding a three-over-par 75 in the opening round to take sole possession of the lead.

She opened a two-shot advantage over the chasing pack but could not maintain her pace, carding an 81 in the second round and 79 in the final round to finish fourth on 19-over-par.
Olomi entered the championship with confidence after finishing runner-up at the 2025 Uganda Open, where she narrowly lost to Kenya’s Mercy Nyachama in a dramatic playoff at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club.
Vicky Elias finished seventh on 28-over-par, while TLGU vice-president Ayne Magombe placed 12th on 32-over-par. Former TLGU honorary secretary Yasmin Chali finished 43rd.

The three-day, 54-hole championship brought together female golfers from Ghana, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria and host Uganda. The annual tournament once again carried World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) status.
Wanyeche’s victory underlined Tanzania’s growing strength in women’s golf, with her consistency proving decisive as she secured another major title in the region.
TLGU president Timea Chogo has congratulated Hawa Wanyeche and the entire Tanzanian team for their strong showing at the Uganda Ladies Open, praising the players for flying the country’s flag high.
Chogo said the team’s success was a result of hard work and dedication.
“They really worked hard for this success,” Chogo said.

Ahead of the tournament, Chogo had rallied behind Tanzania’s leading golfers as they prepared to tee off at the Uganda Ladies Open 2026, urging fans to support the national contingent.
“Dear golfers, let’s cheer on our squad and wish them well as they kick off Day 1 of the Uganda Open,” she said.
Her message of encouragement was followed by a strong performance from the Tanzanian golfers, led by Wanyeche, who claimed the Uganda Ladies Open title after a consistent three-round display at Uganda Golf Club in Kampala.
