Wanyeche makes Kenya Amateur Championship Cut

Tanzania's sole representative, Enosh Wanyeche, made the cut at the 49th NCBA Kenya Amateur Strokeplay Championship, advancing to the final two rounds against a world-class field.

Competing in a strong field of over 150 elite amateur golfers from around the world, Wanyeche secured his place in the final two rounds of the prestigious 72-hole championship at Royal Nairobi Golf Club.

The tournament attracted elite amateur players from Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Namibia, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Rwanda, India, Uganda, China, Lebanon, Burundi and Ethiopia, confirmed its status as one of East Africa's premier amateur golf events.

Wanyeche posted rounds of 77 and 81 over the opening 36 holes to finish tied for 45th on 14-over-par, earning one of the top 48 places and ties required to advance to the final two rounds.

His achievement marks a significant milestone for Tanzanian golf, highlighting his ability to compete with some of the region's top amateur players in one of the flagship events on the Kenya Amateur Golf Championship (KAGC) Series.

The championship carried additional significance, with the winner securing direct qualification for the 2027 Magical Kenya Open, while players also battled for valuable World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) points and KAGC Order of Merit points.

Speaking after completing the second round, Wanyeche expressed his delight at making the cut.

"Today was really tough for me, but thank God I made the cut. Now let me work on improving over these next two days and we'll see how it goes.

"It's a bit cold here, but not too much. I've heard it's even colder in Limuru, where we're going after the tournament. They say it's freezing there."

Wanyeche's performance offers another encouraging sign for Tanzanian golf as he continues to raise the country's profile on the regional amateur circuit.

The leaderboard is tightly contested after the opening rounds, with Shashwat Harish from Indi and host Kamoza Longwe sharing the lead at 4-under par.

Harish carded rounds of 76 and 68, while Longwe followed with 71 and 73, leaving both players tied at the top heading into the next stage of the competition.
